Lifted vibes in the rain
by NATANGA SMITH
The Crane and Equipment yard in St George seemed the perfect place to hold Elevate: Lifted cooler party. That was until torrential rain ruined the merriment.
The rain had people running under tents, then back out again when it ceased. And when patrons couldn’t take any more rain dance they started to leave. But even though many left, hundreds were determined to not let the rain stop their jam.
The patrons were given an extra 15 minutes past 1 a.m. and they used it to maximum benefit. The DJ booth was on a special stage in a protective plastic cage to which the DJs were lifted by crane (novel).
There were live performances (Scrilla and Fadda Fox pleased the crowd) as some people didn’t mind dirty dancing in the rain.
Fireworks added some colour to the night skies and the dancehall music for a couple of minutes seemed to get a bigger crowd response than the soca.
The edges of the yard were dotted with tents for food and drink and the coolers were in the hundreds.
When the party ended, friends helped carry out those who had a little too much to drink while others stuck around to lime and allow the many vehicles time to clear the area.
Next year even if it rains, it promises to still be a party not to be missed. (NS)
