Last chance for Bacchanal
by NATANGA SMITH
ON THURSDAY NIGHT friends and their crew took over Cricket Legends of Barbados in Fontabelle, St Michael.
It was the last hurrah for Bacchanal Thursdays as the last lap for Crop Over 2016. There was lots of conversations, drinks, food and feting.
The man behind the movement Alvin Soca Superman Toppin was on the stage, making sure patrons were dancing all night long.
Lil Rick, Leadpipe And Saddis, King Bubba FM and Hypasounds, while not physically present, were there in spirit through their music as the hottest soca songs of last year and this year were played. Even the remixes got good forwards.
Seen in the venue were heavily armed men in blue, making sure it was still a safe end to the Crop Over last lap week.
Soca music seemed to give the partygoers power as they pulled out the energy to dance when it seemed they got weary.
The on and off light drizzles didn’t dampen spirits as some didn’t even seek shelter but stayed in the rain.
Soca Superman went into his archives and the more mature patrons kept up with the young ones as Hypa Dawg, Bandana, Mash Up And Buy Back among others had them wukking up. Feet that were on fire were then cooled down to palance.
While saying thank you to patrons who made Bacchanal Thursdays a must on the Crop Over calendar, Toppin gave a shout-out to comedian Majah Hype, who made a brief appearance on stage. Also present was Bajan actor Adrian Holmes.
At 1 a.m. the crowd was still thick, and rum songs were aplenty now with Meh Rum, Who Drinking Rum to All Is Rum, as the patrons raised bottles and cups in appreciation.
Last Man To Leave aptly described those in the fete who were asking if they could party till sunrise.
When the SATURDAY SUN team left at 2:30 a.m., the party was still pumping and Fadda Fox’s Ducking was appropriately playing. (NS)

The crowd was still partying at 2:30 a.m.
This crowd enjoyed their last Bacchanal Thursday for the Crop Over 2016 season.
Letting their hair down after a busy Crop Over season, entertainers MRBLOOD and Sammy G were at Bacchanal Thursdays.
